Tic-tac-toe
This activity was set to the 5th grade. This
game is very simple; it is not necessary extra materials: just the chalk and
the board. It was used to review vocabulary such as greetings, foreign words,
places at school, professionals that work at school, school material, etc. This is a great
activity to develop team spirit as well, since the students have to cooperate
with each other.
First of all, I gave all the instructions of
how the students should procedure and how they should behave during the game.
Next, I divided the students into two groups. One group was represented by the
symbol O, and the other by the symbol
X. After that, I drew the tic-tac-toe
on the board. In each spot there was a number (according to the picture you can
see). One group had to choose a number, and then, with the key in my hands, I
read it and the group had some seconds to answer the question. If the group was
right, its corresponding symbol was written in the spot chosen; if the group
was wrong, the opponent’s symbol was written.
Some examples of questions:
“Cite, em inglês, o nome de três países”; “Cite uma palavra estrangeira usada
no nosso dia a dia e uma palavra adaptada”; “Como se fala ‘inspetor’ em
inglês?”; “Cite um modo de cumprimento informal, em inglês”, and so on.
It was really nice, I hope my students had a great time.
